REAL NAME: Emil Delvecchio

OCCUPATION: US Navy Surgeon; Delta Green agent

EDUCATION: John Hopkins Medical School, Annapolis Naval Academy

SPECIALTIES: Medical field support

BACKGROUND: Born in 1965, Emil Delvecchio is a fourth-generation Italian immigrant and a third-generation Navy brat. (Both his grandfather and father served in the navy in World War II and Vietnam respectively.) His upbringing was relatively normal, bar his parents divorce and the constant moving between wherever his father was stationed and New York, where his mother was an opera singer. Family pressure was placed upon him to enter the navy, but he expressed an interest in medical school.

In an effort to please both parents, he managed to win a scholarship to medical school and sponsorship by the U.S. Navy. During vactions he studied at the Annapolis Naval Academy, graduating from this and medical school in 1990. His graduation came about during Desert Shield and he was immediately posted to the allied forces serving in the Gulf.

His exposure to the strange came several months later, during Desert Storm. As a junior officer, it was no surprise for him to be assigned to the night watches. On one of these, the call came in for one of his ship’s helicopters to be assigned to a search-and-rescue mission. This had happened before, and it was normal for a doctor to be assigned. This one turned out to be different. Delvecchio knew it when he was handed a submachinegun–it was to be a possible hot extraction.

Flying in over the southern-most tip of Iraq, they entered the swampy river delta. The crew quickly made contact with their target and closed. As they got closer, the only thing lighting up the sky was gunfire and, as they circled over, the flare let off by those on the ground. Then the helicoptor suddenly lurched and was felt not to be moving for a moment, before it began violently shaking. Delvecchio, thinking they were about to land, had begun to unstrap himself and was flung through the open doors and to the ground. As he hit the ground he was winded and as he looked up, there was a tree high above him. Insanely, he was sure it moved when backlit by the fireball of his exploding ride.

The next thing he knew, he was being shaken awake by a man in dark desert camouflage and being asked who he was. When he identified himself, he was told, “Haul ass, doc, I’ve got wounded here and I need them alive until another chopper can get in here.” There appeared to be a lull in the action and the young Lieutenant went to work. Having finished, he found his interrogator and asked what was going on. “Difficult to explain. All you have to know is that you have to survive until our next pick-up and we need every gun we have. Point that thing out there and drop anything that moves, human or not. If we get out of this, I’ll explain everything.” Before walking away, the older man turned and said, “By the way, I’m Commander Forrestall, welcome to the SEALs…”

The return came a few hours later and during that time Delvecchio never got a real glimpse of what was out there. Nor did he get a chance to talk to Forrestall during that time or when they returned. That came a year later, when Delvecchio was stationed in San Diego. Forrestall turned up out of the blue and joined Delvecchio on his morning run. He more or less explained basics about the truth, the paranormal, Delta Green and the event in southern Iraq. (The latter had been a case of Iraqi leaders turning to a measure of last resort…)

Since 1992, Emil has been a member of Delta Green, but has not been on any actual field operations, except in suppport capacity. Recently, he has been promoted and assigned to the staff of the American embassy in London. There he has been maintaining a very low-key surveillance on paranormal activity. So far this has not produced any results, although he thinks he may have located independents working against the Mythos.
