Operation Sandman – Introduction

By Shane Ivey, (c) 1998

A junky shivers in a hospital bed, sweating brine as his hallucinations of watery horrors seep into those around him…

Shadowy figures trade deadly secrets in the darkest pits of the City…

A preacher shouts righteous defiance against the the plague of a new drug on the streets and the government agents who brought it there…

A voodoo priest calls upon an old and secret god…

Delta Green has no idea what it’s in for.

OPERATION: SANDMAN is a Delta Green campaign of horror and discovery in the dying heart of New York City.

Play began on May 31, 1998, based on a manuscript begun in December, 1997, and ran until 2001. OPERATION: SANDMAN was played entirely over the Internet, via IRC and WebRPG, with players located in Alabama, Ohio, Texas, California, Wales, and England.

Detailed campaign documents and complete transcripts are available at this website. Look for the “Operation SANDMAN” tag.

Author’s acknowledgements (1998): David Simon for his deconstruction of life on the killing streets; Donald Kessler for his examinations of the FBI and the CIA; and former DCI John Deutch for his lessons in irony before that audience of South Central skeptics.

Shane Ivey runs Arc Dream Publishing and is lead editor for Delta Green.
