INTRODUCTION
The Delta Green Mailing List (DGML) is a list dedicated to the discussion of the CALL OF CTHLHU RPG published by Chaosium, Inc., and more specifically of the DELTA GREEN campaign setting published by Pagan Publishing.

This list is intended to serve as a clearinghouse of information suitable for use in Delta Green role-playing campaigns. Acceptable topics for discussion include questions pertaining to the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game itself, the Delta Green setting, scenario ideas (whether original, inspired by Mythos fiction, or drawn from real-life events), game anecdotes, etc.

PROTOCOL: POSTING ETIQUETTE
These are the "rules of the road" for the DGML. Since its inception, the DGML has been a tremendous resource for gaming, fiction, and discussions of Lovecraft and conspiracy theory -- and these rules are one reason why. Read them. Remember them. Obey them. If you don't, one of the list moderators will send you a reminder.

KEEP IT ON TOPIC. The list is intended for discussion of Delta Green. That can include an impressively wide range of subject matter, from conspiracy theory to the Cthulhu Mythos to religion to genetic engineering to NASA to... Well, you get the idea. But that doesn't mean it's a free-for-all; everything should have some relevance to Delta Green. If you can't think of some reason a total stranger on the DGML would be interested in what you have to say, odds are it doesn't belong here. Incidentally, if you see "ObDG" in someone's message, it means "Obligatory Delta Green": What usually follows is an attempt to justify what was probably a woefully off-topic message. Unless you've got something with some serious entertainment value, save yourself the trouble and keep it on topic to begin with.

TRIM YOUR POSTS. If you quote a message from the list, delete all unnecessary quoted lines. Nobody needs spam, especially on a list that's this active. If you use a .sig file to automatically sign your posts, please keep it to a reasonable length: Four or fewer lines is considered a netiquette standard. No big long quotations and for godsakes no huge PGP signatures.

USE PROPER MESSAGE FORMATTING. This means plaintext, not HTML. Many people on the Internet do not have HTML-capable mail clients, and what looks like a beautiful work of email art on one screen will be nothing but ugly code on another. If in doubt, double-check your email application's preferences to ensure that it creates new messages in plaintext and that it replies to messages in plaintext regardless of the original formatting. If you're not sure how to adjust these settings, ask.

NO ATTACHMENTS. Do not send attachments of any kind. If you have files of some sort that you'd like to share with other list members, join the DGML Backup group at Yahoo! Groups, upload your files there, and notify the DGML what you've done.

DON'T PASTE WHOLE ARTICLES. If you find an absolutely killer article or website, don't copy and paste the whole thing. Paste an excerpt, mention why it's so great, and then give us the link. Interested parties will check it out. Uninterested parties don't want the spam.

AVOID "ME TOO" POSTS. You know what I'm talking about: "Me too!" "What she said!" "Yeah!" "That was cool!" Ad infinitum. Express agreement in private email to whoever rang your bells. If you have something to add, send it to the list!

INCLUDE SPOILER WARNINGS. Post all the spoilers you want for games, movies, books, etc. Just be sure to put a big SPOILER WARNING in all caps. Nobody wants to have the campaign they're in ruined because somebody on the list blabbed about the ending without giving others a chance to avert their eyes.

DON'T TRY TO CONVINCE US OF YOUR POLITICAL OR RELIGIOUS VIEWS. Delta Green deals with some serious, politically-charged subject matter, and the list is followed by people from every political and religious background. That can yield some terrifically interesting and informative discussions, as long as you can respect others' opinions and don't try to shove yours down anyone's throat. Keep it civil.

MODERATORS
Several list moderators are assigned to help keep the list on topic and useful. Please contact any of these moderators directly to report abuse or other List problems. Please DO NOT use the list to report such problems. You may also contact the Moderators to answer any questions concerning list etiquette or other related issues.

Agent ANDREA is on hand to enforce the rules, when necessary. She will not respond to every single infraction of the rules, but if someone disrupts things with a truly ugly non-trimmed post, or a strictly flame-baiting political screed, or a three-screen copied-and-pasted article, ANDREA will be in touch. Rule breakers who ignore the warnings will be removed from the list.

The moderators are:

  • Shane Ivey [christopher@delta-green.com] [list owner]
  • Agent ANDREA [andrea@delta-green.com] [list enforcer]
  • Dave Farnell [superdave@jcom.home.ne.jp]

"At PISCES' direction, MI-5 intercepts mail, taps phones, and bugs apartments and homes. GCHQ--Government Communications Headquarters, the U.K.'s version of the NSA--monitors email servers and monitors the airways for radio traffic and cell-phone communications. PISCES agents infiltrate occult societies and fringe churches looking for signs of corruption. If such signs are detected, PISCES resorts to its tried-and-true methods of disposing of such threats..."
