Alien stronghold found in Denver Airport! All, Great interview about the 'mythos' aspects of the Denver airport. For those who have been there, it is a stange place. I snipped the stuff below about the artwork also. Note the Mayan ruins part. I was amazed to find a 3/4 scale mayan ruin, INSIDE THE AIRPORT! I am still looking for a photo, if you know of one, let me know. Also, let me know if you can find a map. The airport construction was scandalous and much of the information has been suppressed. For those who missed the earier post, see http://www.anomalous-images.com/christo.html. I bet I could change the peruvian Mi-go base scenario to modern Denver pretty easily! What was the name of the peruvian scenario in either cthulhu classics or cthulhu casebook? Some other links about this obvious mi-go base: http://204.202.137.112/sections/travel/Stuck/airport_denver.html http://www.qdw.com.au/pan/da.html http://www.marsweb.com/~watcher/nwodnver.html Here are a few of our favorites: A 30-foot-high fiberglass blue mustang is the first piece of art people will see as they come into the airport via Peña Boulevard. Made by well-known New Mexico artist Luis Jiminez, the rearing horse has eyes that shoot out laser-like beams of red light. Near the carousels in the baggage claim area, check out the two whimsical suitcase gargoyles by Terry Allen. They go by the name “Notre Denver.” Also in the baggage claim area are two colorful murals painted by Denver artist Leo Tanguma, a Chicano activist-artist whose general procedure is to involve the community in creating his murals. Across the main terminal from Tanguma’s murals is Gary Sweeney’s “America, Why I Love Her,” two big photomural maps of the United States with the artist’s small framed snapshots of odd bits of Americana — ever seen the Frog Fantasies Museum in Eureka Springs, Arkansas? — tacked onto the appropriate locations. Sweeney used to work as a baggage handler for Continental Airlines. On Denver’s spot on the map, he included a little sign that says: “You are here . . . but your luggage is in Spokane.” Needless to say, not everybody was amused, especially when glitches in the automated baggage system caused multiple delays in the airport opening date. On the balustrade at the top of the escalators that connect level five and level six in the main terminal are 28 glossy, vibrant ceramic vases by internationally known ceramist Betty Woodman. Although Woodman has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, this was her first public commission. One of our favorite pieces is the interior garden created by Michael Singer in Concourse C. These mossy ruins are visible from below as you exit the train and from above in the concourse. Artists have worked on the floors of DIA in several places, including the main terminal and Concourse B, so if you watch where you’re walking, you’ll see pictographs, fossils and more inlaid in the terrazzo floor. In the food court areas in Concourse A you’ll notice colorful tile patterns that appear to be abstract — but go up the escalator, take a look from above and you’ll see that they form foreshortened figures of people. Barb McKee and Darrell Anderson collaborated on this project. Finally, on the way out of the airport you may notice a line of rusted farm implements. It’s not that there wasn’t time to clean up — this is part of an art project created by Sherry Wiggins and Buster Simpson to acknowledge that agriculture was historically one of the primary uses of the land on which DIA was built. Curious passersby can get a brochure that identifies and locates the art at DIA in the information booths in the main terminal and in concourses A and C. - ------------------------------------------------- ICQ# is 9957476 http://www.inlink.com/~jeferi/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 12:51:25 -0500 From: Jeff McSpadden Subject: DG: DIA Followup All, I hate to repond to my own posts, but I tracked down the 'offical'denver airport site at http://infodenver.denver.co.us:80/~aviation/. there are pdf maps of the airport, pbetter pictures of the artwork, and QUICKTIME video of the interior. You can't ask for more than that! The artwork will take some digging, but the photo of the 30' tall mustang with lasers for eyes is worth it. Below is a snipped description of the garden/mi-go temple. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The work for Concourse C includes the design of a 5,000-square-foot interior garden with sculptural and architectural elements as well as a 7,000-square-foot inlaid stone pattern drawing for the main floor. Materials for the garden include wood, stone, individually cast cement panels and plant material. The walls of the garden space are 15-feet high and are constructed at an angle, separating them from the walls of the concourse building. The wall of the concourse is seen through a specifically designed wooden trellis. The use of an irrigation system provides an opportunity for water as an element of the design. Layers of patterns and combined elements repeat throughout the design of the garden and floor implying a process of discovery and an accumulation of meanings. If you read the Book of Madness (Mage the Ascenscion) you will discover that the K'lassha (sp.?) sect of the Nephandi are directly suggested to be Mythos cultists. It mentions the game "Call of Cthulhu" by name. Thus, the WoD and CoC are already interlinked in an official WW supplement. Also, in the Vampire Storyteller's guide is a section on incorporating the Mythos into a V:tM campaign. So it seems that White Wolf's official position on crossovers of this sort is clear. > True, Azathoth may well have his way some day a millennium from now, but > White Wolf's protagonists have about as much hope as the main character > in a Camus novel! I think that Delta Green, an organization dedicated to ending supernatural influence on humanity, would be much more likely to hunt Dog Boyz and Bloodsuckers rather than ally with them. But the forces of the WOD are still comprehensible. Their motivations, for the most part, are understandable, they can be cajoled and negotiated with, and so forth. There is a promise in each game -- whether it's V:TM's Golconda or W:TO's Transcendence -- of a means for escaping this doom, and not even the Apocalypse or Gehenna may occur (WW says so much in the books). Even if individual characters may not have hope, the end of the world, which is foretold in conflicting ways throughout the material, might indeed be averted. In COC, there's no sense of this at all. In the bottom right hand corner is a red 8 digit number preceded by a capitalized letter, also printed in red. This may be overkill, but I figured it'd be better to give you too much rather than too little info. I've actually put together a V:tM game based around the King in Yellow Mythos. I think that CoC works best with Vampire, because it doesn't have as developed a cosmology as the other games. But I digress. > My > point is simply that Call of Cthulhu always seems to imply that it is > possible to make a difference, even if that is only an illusion because > of our lack of enough knowledge of the true extent of the Mythos. I'm still not sure why this is true about CoC rather than the World of Darkness games. Almost all RPGs, no matter what genre, generally allow the characters to "make a difference" -- after all, why play a game where your characters are buffeted about by fate and can never act? In the WoD, it is even more possible for the person to make a difference than in CoC. Until you get up to the nastiest spirits, there's very little that can't be done in or overthrown. After all, look at Vampire's Level 10 disciplines, or Werewolf's Level 5 gifts. Many of these could have potential ramifications for hundreds or thousands of people, and even the mightiest foes have been done in. In the CoC game, we know how things are going to end; in World of Darkness games, it's possible that the Antediluvians/Wyrm/Technocracy/Hierarchy could be overcome (in some cases, it's been done before), and that all the dark prophecies that the characters have been taught are lies, instead of immutable truths over which the characters have no control. A warning is that I am often time crunched and might take a little while to respond to requests for large volumes of information. On a related note, I have to admit I am particularly interested in the discussions of DG/WoD crossovers, as I have always found that throwing Mythos phenomena at my WoD players has the appropriate effect: i.e., scaring the wits out of them and making them realize that they are not the most powerful thing on the planet. I particularly think that this works well in a well crafted, reasonably low-level campaign of Mage, where the Nephandi seem like ready made Mythos servants, and also in Werewolf games, where players tend to get a little too cocky playing 9 foot tall furry machines of death. Making them realize that losing their cool not only brings the apocolypse closer but also feeds the appetites of beasts who barely see earth as a tasty snack tends to slow them down and think for a while. Artifact #1 Womb-cylinders "While you quickly scan for an escape route, one of the creatures reveals a strange fat cylinder. The creature twists off one end of the cylinder exposing a set of dark pustulated lips within. As you try to dive out of the way, a huge glob of slime suddenly bursts forth from that awful pair of lips. The glob hits you straight on and you find yourself engulfed by the sticky slime and pinned against a wall. You struggle vainly to escape and just as the slime invades your nose and your mouth and you begin to pass out, you see a dark form swim past, inside the ooze." Built by the Mi-Go with the benefit of some knowledge bestowed unto them by Shub-Niggurath, the womb-cylinder is the birth chamber of a nasty burrowing parasite. The resourceful Mi-Go used this cylinder, its occupant and the ooze in which the occupant resides as a heavy-duty weapon for defending themselves against flying Mythos enemies. Now that humans have developed such military devices as full-automatic weapons, helicopters and planes, the Mi-Go occasionally employ this weapon against people, when the shit hits the fan. Possibilities: a) increased nastiness: the ooze is acidic, is toxic, is flammable, ignites on contact with air, or is protomatter b) decreased lethality: the cylinder only fires if it detects movement against its field of vision. Of course, standing perfectly still when surrounded by the horrors of the Mythos is pretty tough. Someone might be able to make it discharge before it gets pointed at them though, by tossing something through its field of vision. Artifact #2 Cloud-Seed flares "The operatives encounter a group of Greys in an open field. Before the operatives get a chance to react, one of the Greys points a slick metallic pistol-shaped object at the sky above. The tool makes a sudden scraping noise and a stange twinkling mote of light soars up into the clouds above the operatives' heads. The operatives hear a deep rumble and then orange rain begins to fall." Possibilities: (You could even colour-code the rain for different effects.) a) the rain is a very strong hallucinogen, the investigators are soon flat on the ground having some very bad trips. Suggestions for hallucinations: they see it rain airplane fuselage and human body parts or more surreally, they see it rain disembowelled cats and disembowelled dogs b) the rain is a strong sleep-inducing drug c) the rain is human blood, pure and simple, the Greys use it to distract and intimidate; Sanity rolls everyone. d) the rain is acidic, flammable, toxic, protomatter, etc. (but I like this artifact because it can be disturbing, while non-lethal) The Mi-Go sometimes equip their little puppet-minions with cloud-seed flares so that they can deal with unexpected encounters of the human kind. The flares themselves are based on some highly advanced and unstable synthesized biochemical catalysts. Artifact #3 Hemato-Vision goggles Last seen on some NRO DELTA or BLUE FLY operatives, these goggles are one of the tidbits of technology the Mi-Go have been using as a carrot for MJ-12. The goggles themselves are multi-faceted and vaguely organic in design, giving the wearer an odd insect-like appearance. For the wearer of these goggles, all human blood glows a surreal purple. This glow can be detected whether the blood is currently in a person's veins, or 20 years old and caked into the carpet, or sloshing around in a critter's belly. The goggles are useful for hunting people or people-eaters and as a very quick-and-dirty forensic tool. Notes: Apply Sanity rolls as much as you like for finding blood where it should not be and simply for prolonged use of these creepy things. Also, you might want to make these goggles secretly feed upon the wearer, gradually rendering them anemic. Although they are currently unable to explain the workings of the goggles, project PLUTO scientists are convinced that the answer lies within the Cookbook. They are mistaken. Phew. As for the team make-up, it's mostly US intelligence personnel, with a smattering of non-US 'advisors', including an ethno-chaotician, and a parasychologist from Edinburgh. The one benefit to taking these US agents out of the US is limiting their ammunition. As someone else pointed out, some players show an alarming propensity to equate law enforcement with three-round bursts. It also allows them to face equally-powerful foreign intelligence agency groups on their own turf. Of course, my own players are also being tracked by SRI 'Jedi Knights'...heh heh heh. Incidentally, I was the unruly ATF agent in Don Juneau's PBEM game, is it going on again? Have I missed it? Could I join again? Please? pretty please? It was developing into something rather cool, methinks... Toby Rushton trushton@mailbox.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 21:00:57 -0500 (CDT) From: "Matt C." My liason at Pagan Publishing informs me that their second DG-related project, DELTA GREEN: COUNTDOWN, will include agency profiles for numerous United Kingdom agencies. Getting back to reality, case officers might want to take a look at the report from DG friendly Dr. Nadja Fulani that appeared on our web site (http://www.delta-green.com/) a couple of weeks ago. We have dispatched a team of DG agents to the UK who will follow up on her report about the Army of the Third Eye and apparent UK-government attempts to obfuscate the situation regarding said organization. As soon as we have a report from those agents--expected in the next couple of weeks--it will be posted to the web site and I will post a relevant announcement here. This is a developing situation likely to be of interest to all case officers and agents, groupwide. be seeing you, Alphonse ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 22:12:25 EDT From: Croaker Jr Subject: DG: WWW I understand this mail is being archived for future reference, but it strikes me that many of the things written here would be ideally suited for the official Delta Green site. If you've posted information here and you wouldn't mind it being made "public," you might want to send word to Alphonse and see if he'd add it to www.delta-green.com. Now... When the heck is COUNTDOWN coming out, Pagans?? And just how many new scenarios is it going to feature? Some of the information will echo the articles published in the 1990s HANDBOOK and in John Crowe's article ("The Long Arm of the Law") in TUO #12. Please offer your comments and suggestions, if you would. At www.delta-green.com, you can hit the logo on the main page to view an "introductory" page of sorts; there's another brief introduction on my own site. I guess the simplest way to put it would be to describe Delta Green as a wide- spread (but fairly small in numbers) conspiracy, mainly of U.S. government personnel, aimed at investigating and destroying paranormal threats. Since this is the world of the Cthulhu Mythos, "paranormal threats" tend to be abjectly horrifying or downright cataclysmic in nature. And there are several other conspiracies out there to contend with, most of which tend to have unpleasant intents toward agents who are revealed as Delta Green. Delta Green agents usually are American federal law enforcement or intelligence officers. Some are from other agencies with other specializations. And some are private citizens (called "friendlies") who might not be fully aware of what they are involved with. Does that about sum it up? Shane Ivey http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Shadowlands/dg.htm PS: If you haven't already done so, GET THE BOOK! If you're even idly interested in this sort of thing, you will be glad to have it. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 22:52:39 EDT From: Pagan Art Subject: DG: About DELTA GREEN: COUNTDOWN This monster of a book is shaping up to outdistance its predecessor by 50 pages or more(God help us all). It is scheduled (as much as anything here can be) for a release at GENCON. Final drafts for much of the book are already in. Some artwork is already finished. Blair Reynolds will be painting the cover. Toren Atkinson, me (Dennis, for those who don't know me, hi!), John Snyder and Heather Hudson will be illustrating the tome. The featured writers will be Adam Scott Glancy, John Tynes, myself and Greg Stoltze. So far the book will include (subject to change and expansion): A profile of the Soviet GRU paranormal division A profile of PISCES, the British answer to DELTA GREEN Phenomen-X, a source article on an annoying TV show which LOVES the paranormal a source article on The American Museum of Natural History D Stacks, where the unclassifiable artifacts go... The Keepers of the Faith, a source article on the dwindling Ghoul population of New York City and the Redhook cult OUTLOOK Group, a source article on MJ-12's brainwashing division The Skoptsi, a source article on a Russian Shub-Niggurath cult Also included as source materials will be the entirety of the Cult of Transcendence Scenarios: Well, we have several, including: One involving a hound of tindalos eating its way through club kids in Chicago, a scenario where Carcosa springs up in the upper floors of an artists commune in New York, one involving a animated dog's head found in the mail plus (hopefully), many more. The book is shaping up to be a monster as I have said. Keep all your fingers and toes crossed, and keep the emails for the list coming, they certainly help our productivity. It's nice to know you're not just spewing your soul into some void.
