I stopped because "Time After Time" (the novel) had been much on my mind over the last few weeks (looking for plunder). So I watch the video for awhile, and the pop-ups start getting silly with "Crime After Crime" and "Mime After Mime" factoids. Then it popped-up. "Mime became popular after Napoleon made acting a crime." Now, since everyone knows that mimes are evil and heralds of the Endtimes, you have to ask yourself about the motives of an act that resulted in their increasing. What was Napoleon always fiddling with in his vest? Sometimes you just have to let the weirdness wash over you. Homeschoolers. A few high-profile cases recently, ne? Crappy houses full of dogs and dogshit and armed kids, suicides in dank trailers, little children drowned by the handcount. Let's be grown up and not argue about the virtues of homeschooling, I know that the HS get the top marks in spelling bees and yada nada and actually, me, I think schools are a filthy stupid idea, deeply unnatural, I'd homeschool my own kids if they let me in this country, but that isn't the point. The point is the DG applicability of homeschooling, which suddenly seems to me to be great. I find the Raëlians a good blueprint for how official cults (front cults) can look like in DG, and CoC also. --- The news that "They Are Cloning A Person Over There" stirred our hovel of a home in the Stockholm projects a bit. Cloning. Well. An interesting bunch of dudes, which I suppose you all know about in connection with certain elements in the DG world, is the UFO Raël gang. THEY are cloning Adolf Hitler, to prosecute him for his crimes against humanity. (I may be mistaken, this can be a Japanese project, as well. But IIRC it's the UFO Raël sex cult gang.) "...the human race was created 25000 years ago from alien DNA, by extraterrestrials..." Membership claimed: 35000 members worldwide In the Montreal area (the founder is from Montreal, and the membership of 4000 followers there makes that city the organising hub of the cult) there are 800+ religions to choose from, so the cult is not the only choice for these French-speakers. The cult is very pro-cloning, and one prominent member declared himself willing to be the first human to be cloned. To live forever is the goal of cloning, not to make little copies of oneself. Money comes from tithes from the membership -- but how much is that? Creativity here. Books are on sale all over the world. I picked up my copy of "The True Face of God" in the city centre (stockholm, sweden) where Raëlians had a small manifestation. _______________________________________ The Delta Green Mailing List http://www.delta-green.com/comint/dgml/ From: owner-deltagreen@revolutionsf.com on behalf of David A. Well, while Emerald Hammer and the Green Book seem to be in permanent suspended animation (although the Ice Cave works as an admirable version of the Green Book--not as formalized as the Green Book was intended to be, but serves the same purpose, and does it well), DGWW2 still seems to be healthy and Kurotokage has a strong base, and could reawaken any time now. (With the summer break here, I'm planning to get a couple of Kurotokage articles in soon, although my textbook and novel take priority--unfortunately, I've spread myself too thin.) I've noticed that in the past, when a new member with some good ideas joins the Kurotokage list, we have a sudden burst of activity. So anyone who wants to check it out, please do! And the Nuge asked: > >Kurotokage > > Who they again? Japanese Cult/Paranormalists? Both of those are aspects of the organization, but primarily, they are a shadowy organization, secretly (and illegally) working for the Emperor (or a council of guys who *say* they're passing on his orders, anyway), investigating and containing Mythos incidents--a bit like DG, but with *some* official sanction (although the Emperor isn't supposed to have his own private police/intelligence force, so keeping things secret is just as important). A few agents, however, suspect that something is wrong, that Kurotokage is being used for sinister purposes...and funny how those guys often thereafter get sent on missions that go rhino in a major way, as if the cultists were waiting for them. And then there's the dreams about the monks, and the Secret Emperor... Kazuo-san, who appeared in Davide's CfB2K chapter, is the sort-of-Alphonse equivalent for Kurotokage, the guy who gives you orders and rips you a new one if you screw up. Strangely obsessed with teaching people how to play go, too. Let's just say Kazuo is a bit twitchy. Must be the pressure. As a practical matter, if you just want to download and store the stuff for your own use, it's nothing to worry about. Not like they're going to know about it, any more than a book publisher will know if you make photocopies of a page for personal use, even if they do put a "Not to be copied by any means by any person on pain of Rottweiler-induced dismemberment" tag in the front. If you want to republish the material at a website for others to enjoy (or a mailing list - anybody remember the Pyramid article that got forwarded around a couple of years ago?), then you will be infringing copyright and inviting somebody to find out about it and complain. I think a certain music-related website has had troubles in this area lately. Often you're safe putting a copyright and "originally found at..." notice up on your site, but that's not the same as getting permission, especially if you're dealing with a source who's very enthusiastic about protecting their property. And some of them are quite enthusiastic. And today the guys announced that Jesus would be next on their cloning list...no, I am not kidding! I am still wondering how they want to manage to get the genetic material neccessary, but anyway: Cloning Hitler to prosecute him is a pretty interesting idea, since it creates both legal and philosophical dilemmas and raises questions: Will the person become the same maniac when raised differently? Can a person with the same genetic structure as the top dictator of the 20th century be raised into a gentle, humble human being? On the topic of cloning Hitler I deeply reccommend the magnificent "Boys from Brazil". And then there's the Jesus clone: First of all trying to clone Jesus would be a good way to test all the relics that are said to be the remnants of him. But even if they would succeed, the same problems would occur that also happened to the Hitler Clone: How can you raise him, to make him become the man that he is claimed to have been? Will he be able to create wonders, if he was produced in a laboraty and not in the virgin womb of Mary? Sorry, if I touch religious issues here, but I simply think that the idea of cloning Jesus leads to interesting ideas and questions about religious, ethical, logical and philosopical topics. And of course - and now only speaking in game terms -: If one would accept the divine character of Jesus, the possibility to successfully clone him would mean that cloning Gods or at least their children is possible. So....could you clone Cthulhu? Sure, he's no god, but that would only make the cloning easier, wouldn't it? And last not least: Having Hitler and Jesus cloned could finally lead to the ultimate Celebrity deathmatch! In fact, I'm on a mailing list for CRM News where everyday I get a long list of links to articles on other people's websites with a short summary of each. And there's advertising in the email. So here's somebody making money by pointing people to other people's articles. And it's done by a pretty big company, so one would assume that it's legal. Their (frankly) mysterious involvement in the global cloning debate makes them very topical. Their philosophy on messiahs (Jahweh, Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed) is that all were gifted their powers by aliens. Their leader Rael is the latest in this noble line of prophets. No messing around, straight to the point - "Our man is the next in line to be the fountainhead of every major world faith". Another interesting aspect of the Raelian faith is their attempt to build an alien Embassy (with extraterritorial rights) in the middle of Jerusalem, IIRC very close to, or actually on, the sacred Temple Mount. Naturally the construction is funded by donations from the faithful. Now if that isn't (A) totally unrealistic (B) a fantastic scam for making money, I don't know what is. Hong Kong and Tokyo are often quoted as being the most expensive places in which to buy land. I'd reckon that the Temple Mount has them beat hands down. Also, like most synthetic wannabe religions, the Raelians gild their philosophies with a lot of pseudo-scientific babble. Their focus on cloning as a means of achieving immortality is a classic example of promising eternal reward to the faithful. Additionally, their devoted members give their time free-of-charge to the Raelian cause. Another lovely scam :) Some times reality is just too good to be true. If you can't get the ObDG from this then hang up your tinfoil hat, it's time to retire. >"In the left corner we have the bully of Braunau, the Beast of >Berlin, the >one-balled Grösste Feldherr aller Zeiten.....Adolf Hitler! The book "Catholic Relics and Artifacts" (with a subtitle that I can't recall) lists a whole bunch of relics and gives their histories. An interesting read in and of itself, but downright useful if you want to include this kind of stuff in a DG game. Specifically, I'm thinking of one relic in a church somewhere (IIRC) in southern France. Supposedly a priest there was doubting the reality of Transubstantiation (the changing of the bread and wine into the flesh and blood of Christ.) He prayed about his doubts one day before delivering mass. Then, during the Eucharist (the ritual in which Transubstantiation occurs), the bread wafer actually physically turned into a round piece of flesh and three drops of blood appeared in the (white) wine. The flesh was examined medically and determined to be from the inside surfaces of a human heart, and was too perfectly round to have been cut by normal instruments. The blood was Type A. This was in the seventies, so the super-cool testing of today couldn't be done back then. But here's the cool part: Supposedly, the skin and blood didn't dry up or rot. They are still (allegedly) in the same condition they were that day. So there's your viable genetic material. So if you were the messiah and you want to have a second coming, how might you arrange it? Mightn't you place a DNA sample in one of your churches and wait for genetic scientists to get around to cloning it? In this day and age where virginity means almost nothing to almost everybody, here's a way to be born again and STILL not have a man involved. In fact, you can bet that any group who tries this will select a virgin as the surrogate mother. On the other hand if you were the anti-Christ, and wanted to make everybody believe that you are Christ, mightn't you do exactly the same thing? Talk about the perfect way to dupe everybody! On the third hand (hey, we're talking supernatural folks here so number of hands is variable!), if you were a human follower of some mythos god who was given a bit of skin and blood to make that god come around, mightn't you arrange to have it appear on the altar at the church where you pose as a Catholic priest? So now you can have members of the UFO Raël gang running around in the south of France looking for a DNA sample to bring about the second coming. Who knows what they'll REALLY give birth to? Regardless, it's likely to being the endtimes a few weeks closer. The closest legal scenario would be (to borrow a phrase), the sins of the father... Furthermore, someone linked awhile back some theories that Hitler's behavior was the result of then "modern" medicine, and retribution thereupon. >But even if they would succeed, the same problems would occur that also happened >to the Hitler Clone: How can you raise him, to make him become the man that he >is claimed to have been? A laboratory would be as virgin a circumstance, one supposes, as Mary, and a bit of a miracle, but the question, should you subscribe to the appropriate theologies, is the divine circumstance. Presuming Joshua's actual genetics are found, and successfully cloned, there's no reason to rush off to an abomination against all that's holy right away (well, there is, if you want to remember which mailing list this is on =), as the word is something about working in mysterious ways, the Second Coming being a human (and free willed) initiated event would be something of a kicker. The result, as far as theology should go, would be solely up to Decision, and any predictions or divinations as to what that would be ... > And of course - and now only speaking in game terms -: If one would accept the > divine character of Jesus, the possibility to successfully clone him would mean > that cloning Gods or at least their children is possible. So....could you clone > Cthulhu? Sure, he's no god, but that would only make the cloning easier, > wouldn't it? Or -- Once the second reaches maturity, he is blessed with/he matures into the divine character, which triggers a christian end times. Let's sidestep theological thistles a moment and go with a gameplay decision, and suddenly "good" (keeper's pick =) people are 'saved' (with emphasis on 'good' being able to ignore the exacts of faith and religious circumstance -- if you need an excuse, go with christianity's baptism by fire, where one enters the faith and the salvation because of one's acts.. and blah, go to sunday school for the long version). Pillar of light from heaven, pop, they disappear. Then pick a Mythos entity that wishes to compete. Dueling End Times. Hell of a hard time for DG. Useful DG friendlies can pop, disappear at all the wrong times (wow, some other way for eliminating people besides splorts!). Or -- Divine nature of the clone becomes apparent, but useful theologian points out that the original's ministry waited for full fledged adulthood. DG must protect the youth against Mythos (Terminator, anyone?). _______________________________________ The Delta Green Mailing List http://www.delta-green.com/comint/dgml/
