DATE: 5 June 1998 (debriefed 01 MAY 1999)
AGENTS: Mark (Brian Lundquist, DOJ), Michael (John Rogers, CIA), Kelley (Sam Dee, AKA David Kelley, USN/CIA)
FRIENDLIES: Connor Danforth, NSA; Oliver Keen, NSA; Michael Cabot (US Army/CIA)
SUMMARY: Operation SANDMAN, debriefing transcript 32: The Getaway, or: Rumors of Hammas.
CASE STATUS: Open

Keeper:
Well---any questions before we get into the action?

Rogers:
Where do babies come from? ;-)

Keeper:
In the Medical Arts Center? Ninth floor.

Rogers:
Right so don't bomb that then :-)

Cabot:
Just clarifying: I'm with Keen & Danforth in the garage. JT and Kelley are on their way up to attempt to circumvent the building's security.

Keeper:
That's right.

Cabot:
Circumvent is such a pleasant way to describe a bombing. ;-)

Keeper:
Even better than planning to "Interdict" key enemy personnel... ;-)

Cabot:
I always preferred the euphamism "Enter-Dick" myself.

Keeper:
That about sums it up.

Rogers:
:-)

Keeper:
And it's easier to say with a Southern drawl.

Cabot has disabled the nearest camera in the garage and is looking for a suitable secondary escape vehicle.

Keeper:
Rogers and Kelley have begun huffing it up the stairs toward the Administration level. Kelley still lugs a heavy satchel containing the--uh--"circumvention device" over one shoulder. "Rogers," he huffs, "We gotta talk fast when we see Security. They got us in the elevator being nice to Danforth after he stole the body." You round another level and head up again.

Rogers:
"Hey the guy was waving a gun around we just pushed the buttons for him."

Keeper:
There are plenty of other cars in the garage, Cabot, of every different make. Many have blinking alarm lights, others don't.

Keeper:
Kelley nods. "Good enough, I guess. Just try to keep them busy while I 'check' the camera bank. I don't want any of them around me when I put in the fix." You round another level. The Admin level is the next up.

Rogers:
"OK we'l judge the situation when we get there."

Cabot:
Cabot finds a sedan-type, preferably a better-performing type without an obvious alarm system, and breaks the driver's window.

Rogers:
"I'll check on the patient from the scene and try to find out what's going on I'll raise hell about the level of security."

Keeper:
Rogers and Kelley come to the door to the Admin level.

Keeper:
Kelley nods at the door. "Lead the way."

Rogers:
Rogers heads towards the admin desk

Keeper:
The door from the stairwell opens into a long hall. About fifteen yards away you see the elevator bank, with a cluster of five uniformed security guards watching it warily with revolvers drawn. Another ten yards past them is the main reception desk of the level. Along the hall on either side are closed office or closet doors.

Rogers:
Rogers heads towards the desk and get his DoJ ID out.

(Cabot whispered to Keeper): Some of my immediate plans involve timing. I'm going to switch the fed to the alternate vehicle's trunk and phone in a bomb threat to the building so that we can get out with both vehicles during the ensuing confusion of people leaving the building. If the rover is followed and nabbed (it's the vehicle on film so far) we may still be able to escape with the fed. Just bear this in mind as the other events take place.

Keeper:
The guards turn when Rogers comes out of the stairwell. Two of them look surprised; another--apparently their leader, a slightly pudgy Hispanic man about fifty years old--looks frightened. Apparently they hadn't expected anyone to use the stairs. The frightened one aims his revolver at Rogers and Kelley. "Hands in the air, now!"

(Keeper whispered to Cabot): OK--remember, your Range Rover is specially armored--identical to the other one you requisitioned. It will stand out in a big way if anyone inspects it.

Rogers:
Rogers says: "Agent Jones Department of Justice", while putting his hands in the air.

(Cabot whispered to Keeper): Got it.

Keeper:
Rogers, your shoulder throbs as you lift your arm. Kelley does the same. "Carlson, DOJ," he says. "We need to see where those assholes went!"

[ Lundquist joined the game ]

Keeper:
Lundquist, you came out of the Decon showers in the tents outside the TBC building along with the others in your team a couple of hours ago. Immediately when you came out, officials turned to you as one of the prominent members of this investigation. They wanted answers--at least, they needed stalling. You've been dealing with them ever since.

Lundquist:
Right-o.

Lundquist:
Can I check my persuade skill off yet?

Keeper:
A couple of new developments, Lundquist: First, it's been made very clear that the Attorney General herself has taken an interest in this case. It's too soon to tell exactly how badly she'll want "her people" to micromanage it. But you work with "her people" all the time in your day job, and the signs don't look good.

Keeper:
Second, Danforth accompanied the infected FBI agent to a hospital--the Medical Arts Center at 57th Street and 6th Avenue, just down the street from Central Park and Trump Tower--while the others met privately to plot things out.

Keeper:
That didn't last long--word reached you about the same time it reached Danforth that a CDC team was being sent to collect the infected agent and take him for treatment.

Lundquist:
I can handle the AG (he said confidently...).

Lundquist:
(p.s. I did read the logs from last week, so I'm up to speed on that stuff...)

Keeper:
Things on the emergency channels went downhill from there. The reports came up less than an hour later: FBI agents assaulted and shot in the hospital... infected agent abducted... story developing...

Keeper:
I know: I'm just laying out what you've heard and what those around you have heard in the last couple of hours.

Lundquist:
(OK, cool)

Keeper:
So: What do you do?

(To Keeper)

DICE for Keeper: (1d100) = [ 6 ]

Lundquist:
I speed-dial Rogers. "Hey! Somebody's kidnapped that infected FBI guy! Find them and stop them!"

Keeper:
Rogers, while your hands are in the air your phone buzzes.

Rogers:
"can I get that please and get my ID at the same time?"

Keeper:
Cabot, you bust into a car, and Danforth does an amazing job of hotwiring it. He hits the steering column, twists some wires, and the thing is running.

Keeper:
Rogers, the security guard shakes his head. "No way! You face the wall and put your hands on it, up high! No sudden moves."

Cabot:
Bitchin. We pop the trunk and put the fed inside. To Keen: "Go into the stairwell and activate an alarm pull station, then hop in this car with Connor. Head out and get this guy somewhere secure. I'll run interference in the rover."

Keeper:
Lundquist, Rogers' phone rings a few times. No answer.

Rogers:
"Hurry up then we're losing valuable time like this" Rogers assumes the position

Keeper:
Keen nods. "Good luck."

Keeper:
He jogs back to the stairwell.

Lundquist:
I leave a voice mail. "Call Mark a.s.a.p." Then I try Cabot's number.

Keeper:
Rogers, the security guards step closer, carefully, as you and Kelley face the wall. You hear Kelley breathe, "Fucking bomb, Michael," almost inaudibly.

Cabot says to Danforth: "Sit tight until people start scattering out of here. Try to get lost in the crowd of vehicles coming out of the garage. Don't stop for anything."

Keeper:
Danforth says, "Stop for nothing, you got that right."

Cabot pulls out his cell phone. . .

Keeper:
Lundquist, you get Cabot on the line.

Cabot:
"Make it quick!"

Lundquist:
"What the hell's going on down there? Somebody's kidnapped that FBI guy!"

Cabot gets in the rover, checking his weapon and pulling the extra clip out of the glove compartment. He places the extra clip under his thigh on the seat.

Cabot:
"It's us, dammit! Put out an APB on a white mercury caprice with Rhode Island plates. Last seen exiting the Medical Arts parking garage and heading east."

Lundquist:
: disconnects and quickly does as Cabot asks.

Keeper:
Lundquist, you get the APB out.

Keeper:
What are you telling them about the reason for it?

Lundquist:
I tell them it's based on a report from my people on the scene at the hospital, where the FBI guy is being ABDUCTED.

(Cabot whispered to Keeper): What kind of security does this phone of mine have regarding traceablitity by the local 911 system?

(Keeper whispered to Cabot): You're using phones issued by DG via the NSA--their signals route through ostensibly secure servers with redundant decryption, that sort of thing. DG claims they are quite secure.

Cabot dials 9-1-1.

Keeper:
Cabot, you get a 911 operator on the line. "Nine-one-one," she says, bored. "What is your name and phone number, please?"

Cabot:
(In best Arabic-accent) "We are Hammas. In precisely 15 minutes the Medical Arts Building will be destroyed by a bomb. There will be no mercy on the infidels." Click.

Cabot:
Gentlemen, start your engines.

Keeper:
(LOL!) Cabot, you see Keen run back to Danforth's car and jump in the passenger seat. Danforth tears away with squealing tires.

Cabot follows in the rover.

Rogers:
look you rent a cop schmuck i don't have time for this shit, We've just been held at gun point in a lift, where the hell were you then. Let me get my ID out. fucking cover me if you have to but we need to move things along here!"

Rogers:
"I'm getting my ID out now if you shoot me your going to be ina world of trouble because we've ID ourselves as Federal agents!"

Keeper:
Kelley half-turns and nods down the hall. "They got Agent Winston, goddamn it, and you idiots are sitting on your thumbs up here!"

Rogers:
Rogers gets his ID out and prays he's not shot.

Keeper:
Rogers, you distinctly hear the CLICK of a revolver's hammer being cocked as you pull your ID... Then the supervisor steps closer to read it from a few feet away. "Jones? What the hell's going on here? Keep your hands up and talk fast!"

Rogers:
"We're come from the incident at Breckenridge, we wanted to talk to the FBI agent who was exposed to a toxic substance up there."

Rogers:
"We get to the floor he's on and find him coming towards us with a man with a gun who then tells us to head for the basement"

Rogers:
"He then told us to get back in the lift and press the button for another floor."

Keeper:
Rogers, the supervisor looks suspicious. "I saw the tape, Agent Jones! He didn't exactly point that gun at you."

Rogers:
"Now I'm taking control of this situation from now, I want full co-operation from you ok? Who's in charge here?"

Rogers:
"Hell he didn't have to one bullet into the case around that FBI agent and who knows what we'd be exposed too, Carlson here and myself have already seen too much violence today and didn't want anymore."

Rogers:
"And when the door closed he just shoot out the camera in the roof then coverd us with the gun."

Keeper:
Rogers, make a Fast Talk roll.

Rogers:
"Anyway we were not ready for what happened it's been a hard day and now I'm trying to recover from it as quickly as I can."

DICE for JTRogers: (1d100) = [ 38 ]

Keeper:
The security officers trade looks. Their supervisor--his name tag reads, MENDEZ--looks uncertain. Kelley starts to say something, then the alarm box flashes red and white overhead and sounds off with a harsh, repeating WONK WONK WONK siren.

Rogers:
"What the hell's going on now, we're wasting to much time, unless you get off your asses I'm gonna press for obstruction of justice charges."

(JTRogers whispered to Keeper): That should make them loose interest.

Keeper:
Mendez looks up, startled, at the alarm. "What the--" Kelley turns and walks resolutely down the hall, heedless of the guns. "Come on! That's enough of this bullshit. Jones, get these guys organized and check their perimeter. I'm looking at the tapes."

(To Keeper)

DICE for Keeper: (1d100) = [ 37 ]

(JTRogers whispered to Keeper): phew, hope that my comment about obstruction of justice charges will help.

Keeper:
Rogers, the guards look at each other, at Kelley, at you, at Mendez. Mendez finally lowers his gun and lifts his chin. "Right--come on, men. Hansen, make sure the barricades in the garage are locked! Jones, what's your plan?"

Rogers:
"I need to call in the people from the lift and get an APB out on them, After what happened at Breckenridge I'd reccomend starting a quiet search of the building for suspect packages."

Keeper:
Lundquist, the APB goes out. What next?

Cabot dials up Lundquist.

Keeper:
Lundquist, your phone buzzes..

Lundquist:
"Lundquist."

Cabot:
"Better make those suspects ragheads. I just put a bomb threat in here to cover JT."

Rogers:
Rogers get his mobile phone out and dials Mr. L.

Keeper:
Rogers, as Kelley walks toward the desk you hear a guard there call down the hall. "Lieutenant Mendez! Somebody tripped an alarm on G-2, and we lost the video feed there!"

Keeper:
Rogers, Lundquist's line is busy.

Lundquist:
"Right, Cabot. Will do." I disconnect and get a description out of two Middle-Eastern looking gentlemetn with thick accents.

Keeper:
Kelley yells to the desk, "Who'd you see on the feed before it went out?"

Lundquist:
(p.s. I got call waiting)

Rogers:
"I'd start searching there if I were you, got any vests for your men?... If not tell em to be carefull"

Keeper:
Oops--Rogers, Lundquist's line rings a few times. Lundquist, you get Call Waiting. It's Rogers.

(Cabot whispered to Keeper): Remember, the elevators are all stuck at the lobby now. ;-)

Keeper:
Cabot, you follow Danforth's car in the garage, up the ramp, up the next ramp, careening around the cement pillars and other cars.

Cabot:
Vrooooom!

Rogers:
"Mark, I need an APB on some suspects..." Rogers walks to a quiet corner

Keeper:
Danforth's driving is...

DICE for Keeper: (1d100) = [ 56 ]

Keeper:
...piss poor. He bounces off a pillar, leaving a scrape of car-paint, and narrowly avoids slamming into a wall on the next ramp.

Cabot:
Christ, we make it this far and he's gonna nail the only sizable tree in NYC.

Keeper:
Rogers, Mendez follows you, still wanting a plan. You see Kelley talking to other guards at the desk.

Cabot:
Maybe I should have given them the tank.

Keeper:
Cabot, you follow Danforth's car up to the ground level. Ahead of them you see a last ramp lit by the overcast, drizzly day outside, and blocked by an ordinary lifting-arm barricade. A lone security guard stands in the plexiglass booth, staring at your approaching cars and dialing frantically on his phone.

Rogers:
Rogers give MArk the description of the suspects accuratly as Mendez is listening and then says "Get this out fast this friend needs to be picked up asap."

Cabot:
What's the lead car do at the barricade?

Lundquist:
"I just put an APB out, based on a report from other assets. It's for the two Middle Eastern guys."

Rogers:
"Mark I'll get back to you when things quiet down around here."

Keeper:
Danforth sees the barricade and...

DICE for Keeper: (1d100) = [ 48 ]

Lundquist:
... and takes it as a personal insult, no doubt!

Cabot:
. . .runs over the guardshack.

Cabot:
JK :-)

Keeper:
starts to speed up, then slows down. You see Keen stand up from the passenger window and aim his pistol at the guard. The guard ducks out of sight.

Lundquist:
I'll hang up and put out the APB as Rogers asks.

Keeper:
Keen shouts, "Shit! Stand up and open this gate right now or die!"

Rogers:
to Mendez "How fast can you organise a search of G2?"

Lundquist:
(jeez, what are you guys doing to me? I'm gonna have to explain all of this... I just hope your bomb takes out the security camera tapes...)

Rogers:
(you and me both!)

Keeper:
Rogers, you hear the guard shout from the desk again: "Lieutenant! They got Harry at gunpoint on G-1!"

Rogers:
"Where's G-1?!"

Cabot:
"Oh, shit." Cabot pulls up behind them and screeches to a halt, getting out with his weapon pointing at Keen & Danforth's car. "FBI freeze!" I quickly look for any cameras and shoot at them.

Keeper:
Mendez shouts, "Tell him to stay low and DON'T open that gate!"

Keeper:
Mendez looks at Rogers, "Parking deck--they're trying to get out."

Rogers:
"Lieutenant, get everyone you've got down there now, I'm going to call for backup."

Keeper:
Cabot, Keen half-turns when you shout, but he can't manage more than that from his clumsy perch in the car-door. You see a camera over the security shack. Roll to hit as you open fire.

Rogers:
Rogers heads over to the desk, "Hey Carlson where the monitor, what's going on?"

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 69 ]

Cabot:
I'll fire again, thank you.

Keeper:
Roll a couple more to see...

Cabot swings around toward the security shack and reaims. . .

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 69 ]

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 91 ]

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 100 ]

Cabot:
Ouch!

Keeper:
Rogers, the guy at the desk winces and yanks the headphones off. "They're shooting down there!"

Cabot:
What the fuck kind of sniper is this guy???????

Keeper:
A sniper with a freshly-jammed pistol.

Keeper:
Keen looks at you incredulously for a second, then lifts his gun and tries to shoot the camera out. Danforth gets out of the car with his pistol drawn and crouches near the guard-shack door.

Cabot waves for Keen and Danforth to get going and reaches over into the guard shack: "FBI! My weapon's jammed. Open that gate or they'll kill us both!" FAST TALK.

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 17 ]

DICE for Keeper: (3d100) : 3d100=33,11,86

Rogers:
"His guns jammed, get everyone down there now or we're going to loose another agent."

Keeper:
Keen shoots the camera twice and it lurches off its hinges.

Keeper:
Rogers, your man loses the video feed.

Keeper:
Cabot, you see Danforth aim and fire into the guard shack, several times, firing just below the plexiglass--and hopefully above the hiding guard.

DICE for Keeper: (3d100) : 3d100=51,67,57

Keeper:
He puts holes in the shack, and then the barricade arm starts, slowly, to lift.

Rogers:
"Fuck, Carlson secure the desk and the video tapes now as we planned on the way here, Mendez take you men and secure the crime scene no one in or out on either floor I'm calling in the troops."

Cabot waves for his accomplices to get going. Peaking into the guard shack. . ."You OK, man!?"

Keeper:
Rogers, Mendez gathers up his guards--seven of them, leaving one at the desk--and heads for the stairs. "Come on!"

Keeper:
Cabot, make a Luck roll.

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 35 ]

Keeper:
Peeking into the shack, you see a very rattled guard cringing on the floor and aiming a revolver up toward the door. He shouts, "Shit!" and turns it toward you, but stops himself.

Rogers:
"I'll be there--now send 2 men up to the room where they grabbed the FBI agent. take the rest with you, I'm going to call the agents out at Breckenridge. they'll get some more bodies down here to help out." "I'll come don to the parking garage as soon as I know helps on the way."

Cabot:
"FBI! FBI! Don't shoot! Shit, I'm going after them! Give me your weapon!" FAST TALK again.

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 97 ]

Keeper:
Rogers, "Carlson" waves you on. "Go on, I'm on the tapes here with--" he checks the remaining guard's tag--"Franklin."

Cabot:
Uh-oh.

Keeper:
Cabot, the guard says, "Fuck no I'm not giving you my weapon! Show me a badge! Back up!" His hands look shaky but he keeps the revolver in your direction.

Keeper:
Lundquist, what are you up to? Cabot shows him his badge. "Easy, partner. They're getting away. . ."

Cabot:
"My fucking piece is jammed!"

Keeper:
Cabot, the guard slowly stands, and a couple of chips of plexiglass fall from his shirt. "Nobody's getting my gun," he says. He looks around quickly, ready to duck again.

Rogers:
"Franklin, you give Carlson here all the help he needs Ok, and get on the radion to Mendez and tell him I'm coming down then give me your radio, you must have backups you can get when I'm gone ok."

Cabot:
"Fine. OK. Then if it's OK with you, I'm gonna go after them before they reach the Catskills, OK?"

Keeper:
The guard nods shakily, Cabot. "You do what you gotta do. Nobody's getting my gun."

Cabot winks at him, gets back in the rover, and speeds after the others.

Keeper:
Rogers, Franklin looks up at you and nods. He looks harried and confused, but he picks up a handset and tosses it to you.

Rogers:
"Thanks. help out Carlson then get another radio." Rogers goes out the door, but waits outside knowing what's coming next.

Keeper:
Rogers, hardly five seconds seem to pass when you hear Franklin on the radio handset. "All officers, alert! Code 23, repeat, Code 23!"

Rogers:
"Franklin, what's a code 23 Agent Jones over."

Keeper:
Rogers, you hear Kelley's voice on the other side of the door. "What's Code 23?" Franklin says hollowly, "Bomb threat."

Keeper:
Franklin replies on the radio: "Not over the phone, agent Jones. Report to Mendez or the security station."

Keeper:
Rogers, you hear a definite commotion and a grunted shout on the other side of the door, where Kelley and Franklin are alone.

Keeper:
Cabot, you speed out of the garage in the armored Range Rover.

Keeper:
Lundquist, what's up on your end?

Rogers:
Rogers heads in to help Kelly out

Lundquist:
I'm tearing my hair out waiting for my people at the hospital to tell me what's going on...

Cabot dials up Danforth & Keen.

Keeper:
Cabot, you get Keen on the phone. "Yeah?"

Cabot:
"Way to go, Annie Oakley! Keep the line open between us. I'll peel off once I'm sure we're gonna make it. "

Keeper:
Lundquist, you hear things over the emergency channels: More shooting at the hospital, no reported injuries; suspects have fled in a white sedan with Rhode Island plates; bomb threat has been picked up regarding the hospital.

Keeper:
Keen laughs, Cabot. "Sounds good. Been a little exciting, huh?"

Cabot:
"We ain't out of this yet. Just stay on the line. Call out any tails you pick up."

Keeper:
Cabot, between the highrises ahead you see a large CDC helicopter pass overhead.

Cabot falls back in traffic to maintain room for potential jockeying that might be necessary. What am I picking up on the PD frequencies?

Cabot:
Inbound or outbound to the hospital?

Keeper:
The police bands are buzzing with conflicting reports: suspects are caucasian; suspects are Arabic; a bomb threat was called in; shootings at the hospital; two federal agents shot; one federal agent shot; one federal agent shot but not seriously injured...

Keeper:
The helicopter looks inbound to the hospital. Then it passes out of sight behind the buildings.

Cabot:
. . .and a partrige in a pear tree. I get the picture. Good, that's how I want it.

Cabot:
"Keen, use Danforth's cell and tell JT we're out."

Keeper:
Rogers, you head back through the door in time to see Franklin slump in Kelley's arms in a vice-like choke hold.

Keeper:
Kelley looks up, drops to a crouch, and brings a hand to his holstered pistol--then he recognizes you. "Get this guy out of here."

Keeper:
He stands and picks up his satchel, with a grunt at the weight, and moves quickly to a tape storage room.

Rogers:
"Ok, Where? It would be better if the body was found here." "After all he know you jumped him."

Cabot:
"Keen, let 'em known that "CDC" chopper's inbound as well."

Keeper:
Kelley says, "I don't CARE where, I just want to fix this shit and be done with it!"

Keeper:
Rogers, your phone buzzes.

Rogers:
"Michael, make it quick."

Rogers:
Rogers drags the guard to a bathroom if there is one.

Keeper:
"It's Keen. We're all out, but your CDC chopper is inbound."

Keeper:
Kelley disappears into the tape room.

Rogers:
"Fuck, right speak to you later unless there's any more good news?"

Rogers:
"Kelly! CDC chopper inbound!"

Keeper:
Keen hangs up. Kelley comes out of the tape room after a minute. "We got four minutes. What the hell are we gonna do with Franklin?"

(Lundquist whispered to Keeper): (I'm back now FWIW. I'll keep working behind the scenes to subtly spread disinformation and steer the chase away from my people.)

Rogers:
"What did he see? Does he know it was you who jumped him?"

Keeper:
Kelley looks disgusted. "Yeah. I was sloppy. Had to wrestle him to get him down."

Cabot:
Whenever we stop at a traffic light, I'll attempt to unjam my pistol.

Keeper:
You get it unjammed pretty soon, Cabot.

Rogers:
"Oh well looks like he's out of luck then, lets dump him in the tape room quickly."

Keeper:
Kelley nods sourly. "Damn it." He lifts Franklin's feet. "Sorry, kid. Poor fucker."

Rogers:
"And get the hell out of here fast."

Cabot:
I replace the partially spent clip with the full one.

Rogers:
"No other choice."

Cabot:
Spot Hidden for anyone on to us thus far.

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 54 ]

Keeper:
Rogers, you and Kelley leave Franklin in the tape room and tear out of the Admin section at a run. You reach the stairs. Kelley opens the door, then: BOOOM!

Cabot:
"Keen, you and Connor keep your eyes peeled for tails (i.e. you two make Spot Hidden rolls since I'm too inept to successfully do so myself.)"

Keeper:
Hot air gusts past you and smoke rises, and debris falls from the ceilings. The lights flicker and die, along with the emergency lights. The only light is from the battery-powered wall alarms.

Rogers:
"Kelly you OK?"

Keeper:
Kelley ducks instinctively at the blast, but he nods. "Yeah, no problems. Generator must have been right below there."

DICE for Keeper: (2d100) : 2d100=97,40

Keeper:
Cabot, Keen and Danforth say they'll keep their eyes open. So far, so good.

Rogers:
"I'm calling Mr. L."

Keeper:
Then, Cabot and Lundquist, you both hear the news on the radio bands: there's been an explosion at the hospital. Power's out completely.

Cabot relays that update to Danforth & Keen.

Keeper:
Lundquist, Rogers calls finally...

Rogers:
"OK, where are you?"

Cabot:
To Keen: "Better start looking at getting that fed someplace secure for your and his sake. Does your safehouse have a "clean" room?"

Lundquist:
"What's going on down there? I heard something about an explosion?"

Keeper:
Keen says, "Hell if I know. I just got here today." He checks with Danforth. "Danforth says it does, yeah."

Rogers:
"Good news and bad news we've got the infected FBI agent before the alleged CDC team got here but we had to get messy doing it, at least one dead so far get down here to cover our asses."

Lundquist:
"Are you sure you need me down there? Maybe I can run interference from here?" Lundquist isn't sure he wants to be there...

Keeper:
Kelley says, "Rogers, tell him they're gonna make Danforth for one of the bad guys."

Cabot:
"Head there. If it looks like you've been made, detour. Once your there, stay put. We're all going to need a facelift. I'm going to take care of this vehicle and pick up some stuff." One last Spot Hidden before I peel off toward the Holland Tunnel.

Rogers:
"OK but we're under covers as DoJ men if your not here people may ask awkward questions, the APB I put out was for Danforth so get him somewhere secure."

Keeper:
Rogers, you hear shouting from elsewhere in the hospital as panic builds in the darkness.

DICE for Cabot: (1d100) = [ 56 ]

Lundquist hangs up, speed dials Danforth.

Rogers:
"Kelly get on the Radio to mendez and tell him we got caught in the blast and it came from the floor below us"

Rogers:
"Actually I'd beter do that."

Keeper:
Keen says, "You got it, chief." Danforth drives their car southward toward the Brooklyn Bridge.

Rogers:
"Agent Jones to Lt. Menedez come in over."

Cabot heads for Joizy.

Keeper:
Lundquist, Danforth answers after a couple of rings. "Yeah."

Lundquist:
"Get back to the house and wait there. Stay out of sight. Monitor the police bands." Even Danforth ought to be able to figure out what's up...

Keeper:
Danforth says, "On it... Look, man, this shit went south in a big way. There's two feds out there who're gonna want my ass and Cabot's for stealing this guy."

Keeper:
Danforth adds, "And Keen--they'll want him, too."

Lundquist:
"We'll talk later, back at the house. Don't worry about it, just stay cool."

Keeper:
Danforth says, "Yeah, no problem... Okay, see you there." He hangs up.

Keeper:
Rogers, you hear Mendez on the radio. "This is Mendez! What happened up there?"

Rogers:
"Hell I heard the call about a bomb warning and went back to the desk to check with Franklin and my agent and the next thing I know the bomb went off."

Keeper:
Rogers, Mendez says, "What's the situation? Anybody hurt?"

Rogers:
"Myself and Carlson are shaken up we're about to head back in to try and find Franklin he'd gone into the tape room for us"

Rogers:
"Looks like the blast was on the floor underneath us I think over."

Keeper:
Mendez says, "Damn... Tell Franklin to report to me. I'm sending my men up to secure the rest of the building."

Rogers:
"I'm going to try and find him now over give me 5."

Rogers:
"Kelly, I'm going to make sure Franklins dead"

Keeper:
Kelley nods and follows you.

Rogers:
Rogers very carefully walks to the tape room

Keeper:
The whole floor is a mess as you approach the central security desk. There's smoke all over, and a couple of fires are burning. The tape room is a crater. You can see the wreckage of maintenance machinery below. Kelley shines his flashlight up and you see an office through the gaping hole of the ceiling.

Keeper:
Kelley shakes his head. "What else are we doing here?"

Rogers:
"I've got to report to Mendez about Franklin then we are going to either sit tiight and wait for Mr.L or we're going to blow out of here."

Keeper:
"Call Lundquist again. We need to know the plan from here."

Rogers:
"OK"

Rogers:
Rogers speed dials MrL.

Rogers:
"Kelly give Mendez the bad news" Rogers hands Kelly the radio.

Keeper:
Kelley takes the radio, takes a few steps away, and starts talking to Mendez.

Keeper:
Lundquist, Rogers calls.

Rogers:
"OK are you secure and can't be overheard?"

Rogers:
Rogers fill agent Mark in on the days events rapidly concluding with the predicament he And Kelly find themselves in.

Rogers:
"So do we wait for you or do we exit in the confusion, no video evidence of our presence after all, all we need is a change of ID and to avoid the guards here?"

Keeper:
Kelley finishes his conversation with Mendez. "I'm for getting out of here. We need to pursue the perpetrators, after all."

Lundquist:
"You guys had better get out of there. I don't think there's anything else you can do right now except get caught up in the mess."

Rogers:
"Frankly I agree, all we need is some new cover ID and we're cool just have to avoid the security here."

Lundquist:
"Okay, slip away. Quietly, okay?"

Rogers:
"Kelly Lundquiest agrees lets hustle on out of here."

Keeper:
Kelley nods. "Let's get out of here. Tell Lundquist to get to the safe house."

Rogers:
"Mr. L we're going to exit the place asap and then regroup with the others."

Keeper:
Kelley gets on the radio to tell Mendez that you're heading out in hot pursuit. His voice sounds very tired.

Keeper:
Then, "Come on," he says. "Our car's on G-2, right?"

Rogers:
"Yes." Rogers looks depressed at todays turn of events.

Rogers:
"Let's move."

Keeper:
You head to the garage and retrieve your car. You drive past a gathering press of amublances and police cars in the garage and in the streets outside. After flashing the badges and shouting names and instructions a few times, you find yourselves out and on the road.

Rogers:
"Mr. L were on our way you may want to get air traffic control to check on that CDC chopper"

Keeper:
An hour later, you reach the safe-house in Brooklyn. Danforth and Keen are already there, with the infected agent in the "hot room."

Keeper:
Cabot, you reach your storage room and retrieve whatever you need to retrieve, there.

Rogers:
in the car to Kelly: "The other may have been exposed to that stuff we'll need to test them."

Keeper:
"Right," Kelley says. He looks out the car windows, up and around, watching.

Keeper:
Lundquist, things get even more hectic at the official Justice Department field command post. News of the bombing is now taking all the attention; the two injured FBI agents in the hospital have been helping in the blackout, but ASAC Devereaux has sent orders for them to report and give good descriptions of the perpetrators as soon as possible.

Cabot:
I park the hot Rover in the unit, change clothes and IDs, and call a cab to take me to the airport where I rent a different vehicle. Then I return with it to the storage unit to gather "supplies". If this goes without a hitch, I call Danforth and Keen to check on them and get directions to the safe house. It's dark now, right?

Keeper:
By the time you accomplish all that, it's dark, Cabot. It's started to rain, as well, a sticky, humid rain in thick fog.

Lundquist:
I'm going to stay out of Devereaux's way for right now. He's not going to be in a good mood and I see no reason to draw attention to myself right now. His investigation won't find anything.

Keeper:
What are you doing, then, Lundquist?

Cabot:
Once that is accomplished, I "clean" the Rover of fingerprints and any accessory evidence before loading my equipment into the rental and heading toward NYC and the safe house.

Lundquist:
I'm going to stay quiet and keep my eyes and ears open around the command post. I'm on the lookout to any threats to my people. I'll also do what I can to subtly perpetuate the Middle Eastern terrorist cover story (spreading rumors, etc).

Keeper:
Lundquist, you pass a busy couple of hours. News crews are everywhere. Emergency vehicles are everywhere. The two injured agents from the hospital finally are transported to the CP to report.

Lundquist:
I make myself present at that meeting.

Keeper:
The two agents tell quite a story. The DoJ kid assigned to watch the infected agent wouldn't release him to the doctors. Then a big guy in an FBI jacket came in with another guy--they pulled guns on everyone. The DoJ kid hit one of the agents with his shotgun. The big guy shot the other agent in the chest, point blank range. It cracked his sternum slightly, but his vest saved him.

Keeper:
Then the three of them took the infected agent. From the other reports, they held two other DoJ agents at gunpoint, then let them go and took off out of the hospital, guns blazing. A few minutes later the bomb went off.

Keeper:
Lundquist, all eyes turn to you after the agents finish their report.

Lundquist nods understandingly at the agents' story. "I still don't have much information. My people there report being held by unknown assailants."

Lundquist:
"Some of the others report two armed Arabic-speaking guys in the parking facility."

Lundquist:
"I'm waiting for them to report now, but I imagine with the explosion things are pretty chaotic down there."

Keeper:
Lundquist, Deveraux says, "Your people? Which ones have reported to you?"

Lundquist:
I give Rogers and Kelley's cover ID's. "Why?"

Keeper:
"You said they reported being attacked by 'unknown assailants.' They didn't say anything about their partner?"

Lundquist:
"The explosion had just gone off when I spoke to them. They were split up and didn't know anything yet."

Keeper:
"But they saw their partner before the explosion. According to hospital security, he held a gun on them. Are you saying they failed to mention that fact?"

Lundquist shakes his head. "That wasn't one of our people." Cabot stops at a Walgreens along the way and picks up some materials for altering the appearance of himself and the others.

Keeper:
Devereaux looks confused. "Then what happened to your man after he assaulted my agent?"

Lundquist:
"I don't know anything about that. But I can tell you that whoever attacked you, it wasn't one of my men."

Keeper:
One of the injured agents looks angry. "What kind of bullshit is this? He had DoJ ID card with his photo. Where's a picture of your guy?"

Lundquist takes a deep breath. "I got one in my Goddamn wallet, why? Look, Devereaux, it's been a very long and very bad day, so I'm trying to be patient, but if you're starting to say what I think you are you'd better be very careful."

Lundquist:
"You'd better be fucking certain about this."

Keeper:
Rogers, you get Cabot on the phone. Sorry for the delay.

Cabot:
"Go ahead."

Rogers:
Rogers call Cabot: "Cabot, I'm assuming you called in the bomb threat, get on the horn and phone CNN and some other local news organisations and claim responsability for the bomb, claim responsability for whoever you said in the firts warning ."

Cabot:
"Sure thing. Hammas, I believe it was."

Rogers:
"And get back here now, I want a full accounting for your time since you left the hospital, we need to test you for that thing again."

Cabot:
"Roger that. I'm on my way." Cabot calls in to CNN and reiterates that Hammas is responsible for the bombing.

Keeper:
Cabot, the CNN operatore tries to keep you on the line: "Sir, are you with Hammas? How can we be sure of this information?"

Cabot:
"Not all of our Muslim brothers wear turbans and dwell in the Middle East. We are everywhere, even New York City. And now we have one of the imperialist agents. We will be in contact again. If you do not believe me, check the facts: one imperialist shot, one taken." (all in Arabic accent, of course)

Cabot hangs up.

Keeper:
Cabot, you reach Rogers and the others at the safe-house.

(Cabot whispered to Keeper): Wait'll Devereaux sees CNN. Man is Cabot a thorn in this guy's side. ;-)

Keeper:
Devereaux scowls. "Careful? There's been a report that one of your agents may have assaulted a fellow officer and kidnapped another. If I was you, I'd be a little curious to find out if it's true."

Cabot:
He also claims that Hammas is responsible for the shooting of the federal agent at Medical Arts Plaza.

Lundquist:
"What reports? All I've heard is unsubstantiated bullshit. I know my people and I know that none of them have been ASSAULTING AND KIDNAPPING FELLOW AGENTS!"

Lundquist:
"If the security tapes show otherwise I'll arrest the motherfucker myself but until then I'm going to give my people the benefit of the doubt!"

Keeper:
Lundquist, another agent holds up his hands. "All right, all right! We can do this right. Lundquist, get your agents together. We need to task this thing, anyway, and find out what our information is and where it leads."

Lundquist:
"My people will be back here as soon as they're done at the hospital. We'll sort this out properly."

Keeper:
Devereaux pauses for a second and then nods. "Fine. Now... what's with this 911 call?" Another agent looks up: "They're sending the tape over. The operator said the caller claimed responsibility for the bombing in the name of Hammas."

Cabot:
I back the rental up the driveway to partially conceal the hot car. Then proceed to the back door.

Keeper:
Devereaux rolls his eyes. "Jesus Christ! Now we'll have the Palestinian ambassador sticking his nose in this mess."

Rogers:
LOL

Lundquist:
"What 911 call? What's this about Hamas?"

Keeper:
The agent looks at you, Lundquist. "That's all we have. Someone called 911 and said Hammas did the bombing. We don't know if it's legit."

Lundquist shakes his head in disbelief.

Keeper:
To be continued...
